The Poems of Robert Henryson
Edited and introduced by Morna Fleming
with translations and notes by Barbara Rasmusen
Robert Henryson is one of the most significant figures of medieval Scottish literature and is a distinctive voice in the fifteenth-century Northern Renaissance. His subtle use of language and careful balance of humour with high seriousness presents a picture of a vigorous and compassionate intellect, firmly rooted in his society and yet engaging with the wider world.
Here, thirteen of Henryson’s poems are presented with parallel translations into modern English. Each poem is supported by accompanying textual notes.
